Well, putting that joker aside, let’s get to the meat of episode 4. The verdict? It was not spectacular. Nothing surprising happened, nothing on the level of episode 3. Or… I should say that I in particular wasn’t surprised.

Because I was expecting realism.

And I got realism.

Namely, I was greeted with an implicit retelling of Kannazuki no Miko’s most valuable takeaway message. Himeko worries about Chikane following the KnM episode 8 rape “plot device”, puzzling over whether her best-friend-turned-sexual-assailant is an angel or a devil. She eventually concludes that Chikane is just a sixteen-year-old girl.

Now, Morishima Haruka isn’t 16. (And maybe she’s not a girl! We don’t know for sure, do we?)

But the trope applies.

When she breaks down in the hotel, crying about something so seemingly pointless—why hasn’t TJ confessed again? doesn’t he love her? wtf, mate?—rather than shake my head and sigh, I felt for her (and even more for TJ being subjected to the befuddling rant). One might smack her on the head and say, “Yo! Haruka! Maybe he’s not trying to be overbearing? Maybe the fact that he’s spending his Christmas eve with you is enough of an indication?”

But self-confidence is a big player in reality.

And ‘first-time’ feelings are scary.

It’s understandable that Haruka feel outside her element, and be worried, uncomfortable. What she was thinking by dragging TJ to a hotel is… well, that ED article I linked about 16-year-old girls might provide some answers. I wouldn’t shout “slut!”—or, I would, as lolikit, but not here. A time and a place for everything.

We can pontificate to our wits’ end as to whether all the dog stuff is reasonable/cute/weird/whatever, but in the end we see that this is not mere puppy love. Ten years down the line, the two are “rabu rabu” and still roleplaying.

This show GMH.

I hope future arcs live up to the stellar expectations set by this one.

These guys are the Queen’s bollocks. I love them. They write run-on sentences and don’t afraid of anything. They compare themselves to volcanoes—you know who else did that? Kamina. Eat your heart out, TTGL fans.

Anyway, the mission is clear: these pleasant individuals wish to stamp out the “incorrect” usage of the term “otaku” in the EL aniblogosphere by publicly shaming bad animebloggers who “incorrectly” dub themselves “otaku.” A noble goal. I love crusaders, and the conviction and vitriol these guys pack remind me of my days spent raging against Lucky Star. Go get’em, anonytaigas! Pounce on those shitty Danny Choo-wannabes, pin’em down, rape the daylights out of them, and then pull back, in full ape form, beat your chests and scream “EEEEEEEEELIMINATED!!”

According to a site search, this is my first post containing the word “otaku,” disregarding a link to a post of digitalboy’s (digi’s post had the term “otaku” in its name). As such, I doubt I will come under fire personally, though it would no doubt be fun to. And I don’t say this in the “omg I’m so cute, I call myself a masochist” way in which countless losers begged to be on the OEG list. I say this because this shit is fun, pure, unadulterated barrel of monkeys.

Three hints and suggestions for the OEG folks:

- don’t force the cordiality. Be as angry as you like, by all means.
- review every EL aniblog. You can’t say shit like “digitalboy isn’t notable enough.” Be thorough. Really get into the bones of this. Don’t fuck this up.
- work faster. Do you really need a whole week for four disses? C’mon, chop chop.

And yes, I am only writing this post because one of the OEG dudes nodded my way in their latest blogation. But who the fuck cares? That’s how the ‘sphere has always worked, from before the fall of (the original) Blogsuki. Circle jerks and all that. Yeehaw.

It’s all good in the hood aside from some annoyingly depressing shit that’s going down. Yes, I’m just mentioning it to tantalize the drama queens among you and piss off the anti-drama kings among you. I’m not going to go into any further depth, not in the hopes of being enigmatic and intriguing but just in the hopes of rambling. It’s something to mention in brief and then to rationalize the in-brief-mentioning-of, because I want to take up room, but have no coherent intelligible interesting written words to share with you. This is why I am mentioning the annoyingly depressing shit. I don’t want sympathy.

I would find even cooler ways to make this post even more meaningless while preserving its loquacious and overly-verbose nature, but if I get carried away I won’t be able to click “Publish” before midnight and it won’t be Pi Day anymore.

ef ~a tale of melodies~ Episode 6 was hands-down the best episode of anime in the fourth quarter of 2008. But that’s not what made it catch an invitation to this dinner. The day I wasted at work making the below, on the other hand, is.
