Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are you a girl?
A: No.

Q: Are you sure?
A: Yes.

Q: What’s your favorite show?
A: Aria, by far.

Q: What others do you like a lot?
A: Honey & Clover, Simoun, Earth Girl Arjuna, Beck, and Dennou Coil are clearly a cut above most shows, in my opinion. Other anime I love but am less elitist about include AIR, Kannazuki no Miko, Interlude, Maria-sama ga Miteru, Loveless, Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito, Infinite Ryvius, Koi Kaze, Saishuu Heiki Kanojo, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, Wolf’s Rain, and Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora. I also have a soft spot for some mega-meme-spawners, such as Code Geass, and some over-the-top comedy, such as Ouran High School Host Club and Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu! My guiltiest pleasure would be School Days.

Q: That’s a lot of shows you like, for someone who supposedly hates most anime.
A: It’s a tiny percentage of the shows I’ve seen.

Q: What’s the REAL story behind your relationship with Jason?
A: I truly despise him, though I acknowledge that once upon a time he was pretty funny. You know, before “melonpan” and “killer lolis” and “oh geass no.”

Q: Why are you so vulgar?
A: I’m the kind of cunt that needs profanity to be funny. Don’t hate, don’t hate.

Q: Are you a pedophile?
A: Not at all. I’m currently not interested in sexual relationships with anyone, regardless of age, sex, gender, etc… I’m having fun with my 2D stuff.

Q: What conventions do you usually go to? I want to meet you and make con babies.
A: I go to AODSF, Fanime, and Otakon (more to come in the future, maybe). I don’t know about con babies, but I’ll gladly give you good memories if you come bearing a smile.

Q: Do you prefer marathons or the slow grind?
A: Depends on the show. School Days became one of my favorite anime experiences because I marathoned it. Slice of life shows, and most shows I consider super-good, are usually better enjoyed slowly.

Q: I hear you like 2.14x.
A: And 1.6x, you know. Or even 1.21x. Whatever gets the job done. I don’t have time to watch Suzuka at 1x, so I speed it up a bit. Don’t hate, don’t hate.

Q: Is it true that you’re a porn star?
A: There are pics, so it happened.

On Anime Blogging

Q: What are your inspirations, as an anime blogger?
A: As is unfortunately obvious, my blogging is tainted with my knowledge of and involvement in internet culture. I take many cues from 4chan and Encyclopedia Dramatica. When it comes to more episodic anime blogging, my most obvious style influence is Jason, what with the page-wide images and captions. Outside of that kind of post, I mainly format my posts however I want. My humor aspires to be akin to that of Lovely Kitsune or Baka-Raptor.

Q: Enough about your inspirations. What do you bring to the table?
A: I pioneered a new school of blogging called “the defiant wall of text” where I leave images out of posts just to drive readers away. I also was the first to blog about anime blogs, a wish first expressed by a victim of Blogsuki in March 2006. I was the first to integrate high school learning with anime blogging (Dr. Japes had collegiate learning covered approximately half a month before I began blogging), mixing graphs of community dynamics with economics. I also teach a mean vocab lesson.

Q: Who’s your favorite anime blogger?
A: … Jason, obviously.

Q: No, seriously.
A: Seriously.

Q: You’re impossible.
A: Indeed.

Q: What’s the deal with Shirukii?
A: Even though he likes Da Capo and Shakugan no Shana, that guy is a true kindred spirit. He and I have blogged a couple shows in tandem now, and we have a strong bond. He’s also one of like, three anime bloggers to have ever commented on posts on Dreams of the Quill.

Q: What’s the deal with Owen?
A: He’s an “intellectual” blogger who started his blog because of me. He wanted to prove me wrong about something, and also he admired me and wanted to steal my satirical style, influence in the aniblogosphere, and trolling powers. He succeeded in almost all of that—he writes some decent satire, he’s grossly influential, and he’s a horrendous troll. I still think Lucky Star is shit. He claims to love me, but I have my suspicions.

Q: What’s the deal with Mike? You don’t really like his blog, right? You know it’s shit, right?
A: I don’t see anything wrong with the guy. He’s too serious, and he’s wrong a lot, but he’s a nice person and he, unlike some, is always working to improve himself and the things he does. That’s something worth friendship at the very least. Mike haters, seriously, GTFO. A man is not defined by his anime blog’s contents (seriously, look at me).

On notdotq

Q: Why “notdotq?”
A: notdotq was supposed to be the not4chan to Dreams of the Quill’s 4chan. Basically, the “not” prefix implies that it is like the latter, but full of loli/shota hentai. notdotq was originally dedicated to loliyuri, so it made sense at the time. The name kind of … stuck, and is still apparent in the URI.

Q: Why do you have Churuya as your background when you claim to hate Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu?
A: First, notice that I have drowned Churuya. Second, funny 4koma are an entirely different matter from shitty light novel or shittier anime adaptation or shittier still fanboys.

Q: ARGH! Why does she jump up at me when I try to post a comment?
A: For shits and giggles. It used to be worse—before I redesigned the site, the tile was a lot darker, so you couldn’t really read your text as you typed it.

Q: Why is your site so fucking narrow?
A: Why is your asshole so fucking wide?

Q: What’s with all the jasonisms?
A: They’re satire, obviously. Note the award prominently displayed on every page.

Q: But I don’t get them.
A: I’m a blogger’s blogger. If you’re not part of the segment of the blogging community that remembers Jason’s atrocities and my visceral reactions to them, you’re not the target audience of this site. I won’t dumb things down for you. That’s not to say you’re not welcome here. You’re also free to educate yourself. But the jasonisms are here to stay, and I’m not providing a lexicon for them.

Q: That “Site Spoilers” page was a lie!
A: Like so many things, my friend.

Q: What the fuck is “Night Switch?”
A: It’s a web serial I’m writing. It’s relevant to anime blogging because a lot of the characters are based on anime bloggers (Jason, etc.). It’s not technically Miao on My Mind content, but it’s by me, and I’m pimping it, so there. Got a problem with it being center stage on the front page? I’m just trying to showcase the fact that I do more than diss shitty anime.
