All in all, it’s been good. The priestesses saved the world, turned into angels, shared a gentle kiss, and are now living happily together. And who gets locked up on the moon? Shiratori Kuu becomes the sacrifice, Orochi is sealed, and our two heroines have their every wish fulfilled.

Himeko was able to smile again.

“Say, Himiko. What’s your real name?”

Best moment of the show. All series long, Chikane’s been calling herself Kaon and Himeko’s been calling herself Himiko. These are the names that Het-chan gave them; these are not their real names. The implication of this question on Chikane’s part is that Het-chan did in fact rob them of their identities.

Himeko never answers this question, the show doing “the anime thing” and having her trail off into a pan into the sky, but it’s quite obvious that her “real name” is Himeko. Meaning that Chikane is, in fact, Chikane. Meaning that not only have I been right this entire time, but … fuck, the spinoff of the flagship of yuri vindicates me.

Of course, the star of everything is, once again, Chikane. Most interesting character ever, and while that isn’t as evident in this series as it was in the original, she’s still incredibly strong. She says intelligent things and has an incredibly deep understanding of her own feelings—in effect, being the only one in the whole show capable of making good decisions. Making good decisions in anime is VERY RARE, actually.

Chikane… you’re beautiful, smart, and you have a mean serve in tennis. I wish for your happiness with Himeko :)

So the AAs group together to form a super robot formed of each one’s strong part (the loli’s legs, Setsuna’s right arm, Chikane’s left, and Kuu’s… head…? So Kuu’s strength is her brain? How come I was never aware of this before?!) and proceed to pwn the sky. Those feathers (hot snow?) start falling, and the world is perfect in the eyes of one fucked up mad scientist. Hey, now would be an alright time to fanboy about Chikane some more. See, she’s the “sword of the left hand,” and left-handed swordsmen include… oh, Link, for one. Link, being pure win, relays that to Chikane through left-handed swords. Mmmhm.

Episode Summary

Kazuya sexes Kyoushiro, USSR, Himeko, and Apron-kun get pwned, Chikane is hot, Kyoushiro… uh… here, let’s put his thoughts into a song by Tom Petty:

And so ends the episode.

Thoughts

The only way for Chikane to have been even hotter this episode is to, instead of having said “yes” to Mejingjord, having said, “I have given my life for her, and she for me, and we will continue to, for we are the priestesses of the sword.” Well, even without TOTALLY OWNING with a direct KnM reference, she manages to be pretty damn cool. Parts of what she says tie into her last words to Himeko in KnM; she isn’t ashamed of her feelings, she won’t run, she won’t hide, she can tell them to anyone, and she will protect them.

If only this show had more focus on Chikane and her character mattered at all, the show might be good. A major problem with Setsuna/Kuu/Kyoushiro is that they are flat, whereas Chikane, who was the strongest main character of KnM (and, in my humble opinion, one of the strongest anime characters across the board), is well-developed, and… has a character.

I hear people enjoying the show, some for reasons that for me are reasons to dislike it, and some for what I believe are shallow reasons: a friend of mine likes it for the seiyuu. The main reason that I dislike this show isn’t the poor animation quality. It’s not even the crappy premise… KnM proved to us that “priestesses saving the world with robots” could work. It’s that the “empty” (thanks, Kuu) characters and unbelievably bad execution combined make me think “wtflol” at every point along the way. That’s not how anime should be… comedy even shouldn’t be “wtflol.” It should leave you with some clue of why you’re laughing.

This, a more or less serious romance-drama, makes me think “wtflol” and that’s a major mark against it.

Thoughts for the last episode?

I’m going to watch it soon (have it downloaded already) and blog it. I’m making no predictions. All I know is I want something for Chikane and Himeko other than “a brief scene where [they] reunite and bid farewell.”

           A thorough dissection of Shadro’s Kyousora 6 Review!!

Gee I wonder why. Maybe because it’s forgettable? Naw, that can’t be it. I for one won’t forget how bad it is so easily. Then why indeed…

“It is a good series and this episode has reminded me of that.”

This is episode 6 he’s talking about. The one I didn’t even bother blogging about because it was so shitty? Remember, fucking horse excrement? It’s like, the episode in which they try to pull that Evangelion/Mai-HiME/Kiddy Grade/Lain “what if this was the way things were?” shit, only to rub it in your face that they in fact are incapable of executing powerful show mechanisms like that. It’s like, the episode where Kuu dreams that everything is fake, and then sees herself getting impaled by Kyoushiro (lol, Kyousora.com content coming up on that right thurr!!) only to actually not be dead, or even harmed in the slightest. Also, Kozue doesn’t make her grand comeback, existing only in Kuu’s mind. Maybe Kuu should become the database for Pandora…? Zawmphgue, Interlude/Zegapain references.

… but how did he arrive at THAT conclusion, out of all the possibilities? Listen up, kids. There’s ONE anime in which “basically drug trip” worked, and that was Spring and Chaos. No, Paranoia Agent DID NOT WORK. No, the first half of this episode was not awesome. It was like “let’s beat the audience over the head with the fact that we suck. Again. And again. And again. But let’s work some of the most minimalistic pseudo-intelligence into this so that all those poor fuckers out there who like shows like Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu and Paranoia Agent think that this episode is totally kickass!!” It’s not even pandering to the otaku fap-dom. It’s insulting the intelligence of EVERYONE WHO CONSUMES ANIME.

Warning! Warning! When things don’t make “real sense” it’s not that you can’t comprehend them! It’s that they’re incomprehensible!

Woot accomplishing nothing. You know what I’ll change my mind. This was the best half-episode of all of Kyousora, because NOTHING HAPPENED, and when NOTHING HAPPENS, that means NOTHING SHITTY IS HAPPENING, right?

Hey, I never knew. I guess that if you’re the kind of person who goes “oooo shiny” (except in the touched sense, not the comedic sense) then yes, THREE shiny things will REALLY make you go “oooo!!” … Mechs have always been selling points for some anime, but Kyousora of all shows really doesn’t do a grand job of making use of its mech. Evangelion showed us the way much like how Sagara taught his rugby team to “Kill! Kill! Kill!”—it demonstrated optimal use of a strategy. Mech can be used to alleviate physical woes from the human cast, giving them time to sulk around and contemplate the meaning of life (hence awesome emo existentialist anime like Zegapain). In Kyousora? All the main character contemplates is how to get her clothes dirty next. Those shiny things fighting? As Nayuki would say, “ima ga nai yo, Yuuichi~”

Oh? How did you notice? I thought the hot mechxmech action had you completely absorbed?

“It starts to show what happens when mana is given and so on. I really have no clue what that could lead to. Really, the series will keep me guessing, I don’t think there is a way to guess what will happen”

Bitch please. I was making guesses from episode one. Also stop fucking contradicting yourself. If you’re going to say you like shitty anime, at least take a solid stance on it so that intelligent people like myself can attack you coherently! Either it keeps you guessing or it keeps you from guessing, make up your damn mind.

It is well worth the watch and it looks that it will continue at this standard.

Believe it or not, from episode 6, it manages to get worse! Look forward to it! Speaking of looking forward to shit, is there or isn’t there going to be Haruhi S2? I really hope there isn’t, but if there is, I can sit back and laugh at all you losers watching (and enjoying!!) it!

One thing though, it seemed near the end the animation quality just dropped, it was really weird.

In all seriousness, the episode was so bad that this one meaningless shot of Chikane’s frown was indeed better than all else put together. It’s great that she’s got her will back, and it’s great that she wants to get with Himeko again. As Shirukii puts it, “I’ll be consoled as long as [Himeko] and [Chikane] are reunited followed by a full night of sweet, flute aided, yuri love.” The fact that anyone else enjoys any other aspect of this show is beyond me. Himeko’s cello? Apron-kun’s chest? Bah. Chikane > everything.

I haven’t seen her looking so badass and determined since what, episode 11 of Kannazuki no Miko, when she runs into Orochi, leaving USSR behind and cutting down any obstacle she encounters. She’s back for more, and she might find herself a bit overwhelmed this time… seeing as she has no magical girl powers now, and Kazuya not being in love with her the way Chikane is, and that meaning that he won’t hold back, etc. etc.

Episode 9 was great anime!

Or maybe I’ve been watching too much Galaxy Angel these past couple days.

Either way, Episode 9 was awesome.

—Mika-sama is no longer a bitch. She dies, which she needed, and I won’t be missing her, but she definitely redeems herself through her last scene. One can infer from her flashback of torturing Chikane and her words regarding throwing away pride that she did not in fact enjoy the act. And that she felt bad about it. And that she was desperate. That moves her torture to a whole another sphere—the sphere in which Chikane raped Himeko in order to spark hate and become a sacrifice.

—Kazuya is Tamaki. No joke. The fucker twirls around as he speaks, waving his hands and spouting absurdities about beauty. I was half expecting him to start discussing the placement of glasses. Then his sleeves spouted vine-tentacles and I orgasmed.

—Setsuna. BITCH DO YOU UNDERSTAND YET THAT YOU HAVE EMOTIONS?! Well, it seems you’re still alive, despite being ultra-pwned, so maybe if you last long enough for Himeko and Bigfistedmecha-san to come save you, you’ll finally consummate your love with Kuu. Or kill her. Or is killing her a consummation of your love? :3

—Chikane. Confesses her love for Himeko. Not as beautifully as in Kannazuki no Miko, nor as meaningfully, yet the confession is there. And, as need be, it is beneath the gaze of Ame no Murakumo, against a swirling golden background, the both of them crying like the little girls they are. Chikane. The best character ever.

So… what have I been up to lately?

Watching a shitload of anime.

Kiddy Grade, Ikkitousen, Galaxy Angel, Utena, Paranoia Agent… well, there’s only one title in there that’s actually good, and maybe two of them are decent… in other words, I’ve been inundating myself with crap once again. Funny, I haven’t been feeling depressed. More like super happy and lucky and stuff. Maybe I’m trying to kill good things before they happen? Who knows.

Fucking horse excrement, worse by far than even Strawberry Panic.

Bleach (115) – I restarted the show at episode 110, where filler left off. I’m not a huge fan of the show (and have been known to rant against it) but I’m enjoying this “part two” of sorts. The daddies are kickass and Ichigo’s an emo bitch. Too bad Renji just showed up… I can’t wait for them to start yelling at eachother like two retarded morons.

Death Note (17) – this series is that with the best pacing of all time. Each episode amazes me. Now, excuse me whilst I browse Danbooru with my right hand, write Kyousora content with my left hand, and—MASTURBATE TO PICTURES OF SAYU.

Fruits Basket (14) – this show shouldn’t really be tagged “watching” seeing as it’s closer to my “on hold” category. I don’t have a lot to say at the moment since it’s been a loooong time since I watched episode 14. I guess… I’m watching the series with my brothers, one of whom moved away recently, and am waiting for that one to come back before watching more. By the way, girls with issues and girly guys with issues = winning description.

Kanon 2006 (20) – I went into this having seen Toei’s Kanon. I went into this with the knowledge that Kanon’s “plot,” being the trend-setter for a generation of crappy anime, is, well, for lack of better words, shitty. I went into this with the knowledge that Kyoto Animation is win, and that’s what kept me going for the first bit. Yuuichi suddenly became funny, and the show became tolerable. Counting “uguu~”s also became a favorite pastime. The animation quality exceeded my expectations and I found myself watching episodes three, four times a piece. I’ve converted all of l33t-raws’ 1024-pixel-wide HQ releases to the highest quality h264 for my ipod. I realize the truth: the magic that is beauty has taken hold of me, as it did with AIR. Of course, I prefer Summer to Snow, and this show’s OST can’t compete with Natsukage, but the facts are as they are. I’ve begun to like Kanon.

Kyou no Go no Ni (3) – Weird that this is in “watching” seeing as there have been three episodes in the last 12 months. It’s not exactly the most time-intensive anime I’m following. I need to write a post about episode 3, which was amazingly disgusting. By that I mean the loli fanservice I expect of this OVA series was present in abundance.

Kyoushito to Towa no Sora (6) – Well, you all know what I think about this one, yes?

Maria-sama ga Miteru OVAs (2) – god that second one was pure win. It’s the best anime can get; it’s the “AAAAAAAAAARGH~! THEY TOOK MY DICK!!” of animation. I can’t get over the beauty of the comedy, both intentional and unintentional. Yumi going Suzumiya Haruhi, the people around her preparing to rape her, “that’s profoundly scary, Onee-sama,” and the face-touching porn. Maria-sama ga Miteru is love.

Naruto Shippuden (2) – a rocking start to the second half. I have to say I was quite impressed with this double episode. Of course, it’s to be expected of the show with one of the best first episodes ever. Even Konohamaru was bearable all of a sudden. The comedy, while recycled, was refreshing, and the production quality was omfgwtfnowai high compared to during filler. Overall, I’m extremely pleased. Only qualm? Kyuubi looks like a motherfucking totoro.

Nana (35) – this show never ceases to amaze me. At least it hasn’t ever since it switched to Osaki’s (is that her name? I just think of her as Nana…) perspective. The “am I weird?” thing and “not knowing what a real friend is” or how to act around them… I guess there’s something to her mindset that rings familiar with me, and watching this show has become a sick thrill. It’s good. It’s really good.

Notdotq approves. She’s well on her way to flipping out and killing someone (preferably Kyoushiro, in which case she could four-way with Chikane, Himeko, and Kuu) and that makes me quite content. Oh, and there’s the fact that she’s really cute when she’s angry. In class today, a friend asked me why I liked anime. I told them I didn’t; that I hate anime—it rules over me like an abusive husband. My friend cracked up. I seriously don’t know why.

It would be really, really cool if Himeko went berserk and started ripping shit up. I’d like to see her come back from Kannazuki no Miko with the power to stand up for her feelings and a tendency to kill shit. Prediction: Himeko becomes the sacrifice to Ame no Murakumo this time around!

God, this scene made me remember the pain of Kannazuki no Miko Episode 8. In theory, this is a good thing. It implies power and goodness. In this case, however, it’s just bad, because it feels like Kaishaku (/the production studio) is just trying to milk a single thing for all it’s worth. It wouldn’t be particularly bad, even that given, were it not for the fact that for someone who’s never seen Kannazuki no Miko, the scene probably means absolutely nothing. There’s no power in the set up or the execution. Only in the association. Thus I say this: wtf?! Are these idiots just pandering to their fans? That makes them no better than Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu. If they keep going like this, Kyousora might end up on my shitlist.

ANGRY CHIKANE.

Notdotq approves. Far better than breaking-down, crying, blushing Chikane. Perverted blushing cutting-stuff-up Chikane is probably the best… too bad we’re never going to see a scene like her confession to Himeko again. Unless we get REALLY lucky, and Setsuna kills Kyoushiro and YFRs Kuu. Of course, such happenings would guarantee that this show never make its way to my shitlist.

Anyway, yeah, Chikane’s got the Murakumo, and the two come and ravage Setsuna. Setsuna sucks at fighting. At least, she sucks at fighting for Kyoushiro. I’m sure she’d do just fine if she were receiving her strength from Kuu. Remember: your power is directly related to your feelings for those you protect.

“KYOUSHIRO! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?”

I can actually see Setsuna picking up an accoustic guitar and playing some cheesy country music. It’d be grand. It’d be grander if Kyoushiro hadn’t helped Setsuna out of the lake in this scene and replenished her mana, because then Setsuna would approach that “yan” that much quicker. As is, it allows Chikane to kidnap Kuu (not like Kyoushiro could have done anything… unless he’s an A.A. too, which is a possibility…) which is not a terrible avenue to go down.

I think it’s a universal opinion in the community that Mika needs to die. I’m going to retreat on that front and push for her torture. I did not approve of L’s methods of torturing Misa (god, that crotch belt was a terrible insult) but I feel they’d be quite suited to Mika. Torture the torturers, says I. And torture them BAD.
