So, fellow anime bloggers, I’m going to be asking for some help/advice
over the next few days as I try to get this site running smoothly again.

Today’s problem is that I’m not watching any bloggable shows. At least, I’m not watching anything that’s suitable for blogging on this site. ARIA is wonderful and all but praising it really doesn’t fit my trollikitsune image. Other shows I’m watching are… well, I just finished Spice and Wolf (semi-bloggable). I’ve got one episode left of True Tears, making it not really feasible blogging material. And I’m watching Kimi Kiss (only because it has an episode entitled "Rainy Blue"), which, though it does sort of lend itself to ridicule, regrettably makes me way too emo to post effective lulz.

SO.

I need recommendations, especially since there’s a new season starting up (right? spring anime? or was that last month? I’m so out of the loop). What terrible shows are airing? What good shows that I need to make fun of? Is Kyoto Animation doing anything? Are we on Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Season 4 yet? And what about Zero no Tsukaima?

Refresh me, update me, and let me know what to watch for the sake of destruction.

OR—should I forget about watching anime and finally become the anime blog blog that I’ve always wanted to be? Jason Miao isn’t the only good target.

(This would have been a far more interesting panel topic than “blogging and anime popularity.” Also, my new poll is hilarious.)

This will be an examination of various “styles,” “genres,” or “disciplines,” if you will, in anime blogging.

The Jason Miao School of Fanboyism
Defining characteristics: abundance of /a/ memes in posts. Invents own quazi-memes for propagation amongst innocent readers. Misinterprets anime and squees over said misinterpretation. Tends to make posts about english language anime blogging community, while refusing to partake in said community. Fanboys over shit.
Assorted subscribers: Jason Miao, lolikitsune

The Jeff Lawson School of Fanboyism
Defining characteristics: Fanboys over shit, but is extremely courteous to others in the process. Members of this school are the last proponents of civility on the internet. Also enjoys good discourse.
Assorted subscribers: Jeff, Shirukii

The Stripey School of Siscon
Defining characteristics: enjoys pretty things. And little sister characters. Blogging persona defined by fetish.
Assorted subscribers: Stripey, Yuribou, the silent majority

The Lovely Kitsune School of Youth Appreciation
Defining characteristics: gag posts, preaches Ichigo Mashimaro and Maria-sama ga Miteru, bashes shit anime. (the most entertaining school of anime blogging)
Assorted subscribers: Lovely Kitsune, lolikitsune

The Impz School of Delegation
Defining characteristics: ambitious. Tries to get lots of people to post on site in order to increase posts, readership, popularity, etc. Tries to get one or more post out per day. Worries about stats, page hits, etc. Generally too concerned with appearances to kick potential ass.
Assorted subscribers: Impz, the Kono~Sono staff

The Os School of Not Blogging
Defining characteristics: doesn’t post while bitching about other people not posting. Fix it yourself, lamer.
Assorted subscribers: Os

The Scott Frye School of Not Blogging
Defining characteristics: doesn’t post. Or rather, posts, but nothing of meaning or value.
Assorted subscribers: Scott Frye, lolikitsune

The JP Meyer School of Intelligence
Defining characteristics: valuable posts. Concerned with community, stats, AND quality.
Assorted subscribers: JP Meyer, Michael, Owen S (when he’s not trying to be a gangster)

There might be more. And I didn’t place all the bloggers because that’s not really the point. Basically, the Japanese anime bloggers are better than us, Japan is superior, GRAPHS, etc. etc.
<3 all

I once asked fifteen questions of my readers, back when I was in Copenhagen around the birth of ANO. That was a good time- I was watching insane amounts of bad anime, not sleeping, blogging Strawberry Panic, and Dr. Japes was still around the IRC channel. Tomorrow, I take my US History AP test, and, while I promised myself (and my friends, and my family) that I would get a 5, I’m finally starting to get a little nervous…

I feel the need to know more about the world before I die, so I hope that you can all answer these questions intelligently and completely. Owen, Michael, I’m primarily looking at you.

1. was I wrong to establish myself as a troll in my post-retirement blogging stage?

2. who would win in a fight, Drm’s penis or my ass? Consider advantages either of these may have, such as opposable thumbs or heatvision.

3. am I male or female? No “internets” answers please.

4. how old am I? Answer in anime-related terms.

5. does Os love the ogre more than me?

6. what’s the first association you have when you think of me, or this blog, etc.?

7. is Owen the approved successor to Dr. Japes’ position as “most intelligent and incisive anime blog” ?

8. why is it that, while both are the epitome of fanboyism, Jeff > Jason?

9. have you ever used the phrase “hard yuri” or have you ever cannibalized my “yfr” acronym to mean “yaoi flute rape”? And, if yes, why don’t you wake up every morning wondering what a fucking moron you are? And, if you do, why haven’t you killed yourself yet?

10. even though roreee is “my” “moe sound,” I still say “gao” all the time (out loud, to other people). WHy is this?

11. Triple V or Triple A? Lack of bad pseudo-yuri anime or nation-wide depression?

12. Does anyone think I haven’t watched Last Exile, H&C, etc.?

13. From which end do you start eating … loliyuri ice cream…? >_>

14. Is there going to be a Black Lagoon s3? Will it be a better or worse sequel to BL s2 than Da Capo Second Season was to DC? Also, won’t DC II anime just blow?

15. Wrath of God or Damnation?

(Also, fuck dying. I want to live.)
(As you can see, I’m mastering redundancy. “Pseudo-yuri?” I kill myself.)

This one’s a bit of a shocker, so make sure you’re not standing/eating/drinking/wearing pants as you click that “continue” link…

Drumroll, please?

There are some people who like this show.

One of my good internet friends, the webmistress over at Again Tomorrow?. One of those noob anime bloggers, Shadro. Numerous other people as well. This is like Highschool of the Fucking Dead, except instead of zombies, you have people who like shitty anime, and instead of a harem of hot girls, all I have are my trolling powers!

Now, because I need to start the good fight somewhere, and because Again Tomorrow? is my friend, I’m going to have to start a war with that noob anime blogger. First, let’s check the basics: he doesn’t list me on his blogroll? Excellent. He’s not two weeks into blogging (I don’t want to pull another YY maneuver)? Excellent.

And now to mercilessly beat the poor guy to a pulp.

Lolikit Presents…
A thorough dissection of Shadro’s Kyousora 6 Review!!

“Yeah, I kinda forgot about this series for a bit there. Why though, I have no clue.”

Gee I wonder why. Maybe because it’s forgettable? Naw, that can’t be it. I for one won’t forget how bad it is so easily. Then why indeed…

“It is a good series and this episode has reminded me of that.”

This is episode 6 he’s talking about. The one I didn’t even bother blogging about because it was so shitty? Remember, fucking horse excrement? It’s like, the episode in which they try to pull that Evangelion/Mai-HiME/Kiddy Grade/Lain “what if this was the way things were?” shit, only to rub it in your face that they in fact are incapable of executing powerful show mechanisms like that. It’s like, the episode where Kuu dreams that everything is fake, and then sees herself getting impaled by Kyoushiro (lol, Kyousora.com content coming up on that right thurr!!) only to actually not be dead, or even harmed in the slightest. Also, Kozue doesn’t make her grand comeback, existing only in Kuu’s mind. Maybe Kuu should become the database for Pandora…? Zawmphgue, Interlude/Zegapain references.

“So not only was there a lot of action, but the first half was basically a drug trip…”

I’m with him up through here…

” and it was awesome. “

… but how did he arrive at THAT conclusion, out of all the possibilities? Listen up, kids. There’s ONE anime in which “basically drug trip” worked, and that was Spring and Chaos. No, Paranoia Agent DID NOT WORK. No, the first half of this episode was not awesome. It was like “let’s beat the audience over the head with the fact that we suck. Again. And again. And again. But let’s work some of the most minimalistic pseudo-intelligence into this so that all those poor fuckers out there who like shows like Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu and Paranoia Agent think that this episode is totally kickass!!” It’s not even pandering to the otaku fap-dom. It’s insulting the intelligence of EVERYONE WHO CONSUMES ANIME.

“For not only did it make no real sense”

Warning! Warning! When things don’t make “real sense” it’s not that you can’t comprehend them! It’s that they’re incomprehensible!

“but it questioned everything that happened to that point…only to confirm it was true”

Woot accomplishing nothing. You know what I’ll change my mind. This was the best half-episode of all of Kyousora, because NOTHING HAPPENED, and when NOTHING HAPPENS, that means NOTHING SHITTY IS HAPPENING, right?

“Then after that, there were some crazy fight parts for the other half of the episode.”

Vader: “Luke! The fight parts were crazy with you.”
Luke Skywalker: “Eh? Who told you that?”
Vader: “I dunno. Some anime blogging bloke.”
Luke Skywalker: “Well how crazy were they?”
Vader: “Mmm… about as crazy as a small tsundere loli.”

Not very convincing is it? Yeah? Bonus points to anyone who catches the reference. And no, it’s not Star Wars, you bloody morons.

“3 shinny things fighting each other really does keep you interested.”

Hey, I never knew. I guess that if you’re the kind of person who goes “oooo shiny” (except in the touched sense, not the comedic sense) then yes, THREE shiny things will REALLY make you go “oooo!!” … Mechs have always been selling points for some anime, but Kyousora of all shows really doesn’t do a grand job of making use of its mech. Evangelion showed us the way much like how Sagara taught his rugby team to “Kill! Kill! Kill!”—it demonstrated optimal use of a strategy. Mech can be used to alleviate physical woes from the human cast, giving them time to sulk around and contemplate the meaning of life (hence awesome emo existentialist anime like Zegapain). In Kyousora? All the main character contemplates is how to get her clothes dirty next. Those shiny things fighting? As Nayuki would say, “ima ga nai yo, Yuuichi~”

“Though there was a lot of other stuff going on other than that too.”

Oh? How did you notice? I thought the hot mechxmech action had you completely absorbed?

“It starts to show what happens when mana is given and so on. I really have no clue what that could lead to. Really, the series will keep me guessing, I don’t think there is a way to guess what will happen”

Bitch please. I was making guesses from episode one. Also stop fucking contradicting yourself. If you’re going to say you like shitty anime, at least take a solid stance on it so that intelligent people like myself can attack you coherently! Either it keeps you guessing or it keeps you from guessing, make up your damn mind.

“Overall, it was a good episode and I should have watched it sooner.”

Yeah. You should have watched it sooner, in hopes that your suffering be done.

It is well worth the watch and it looks that it will continue at this standard.

Believe it or not, from episode 6, it manages to get worse! Look forward to it! Speaking of looking forward to shit, is there or isn’t there going to be Haruhi S2? I really hope there isn’t, but if there is, I can sit back and laugh at all you losers watching (and enjoying!!) it!

One thing though, it seemed near the end the animation quality just dropped, it was really weird.

Believe it or not, from episode 6, it manages to get worse! Look forward to it!

Also it should be noted that this guy uses fewer screenshots than I do. His post has 3… my average Kyousora post has 20. I’m the king of minimalist blogging and lack of images; I’m the one to whom you say “tl;dr” as you glance over my 5000-word expositions on the existence or lack thereof of Killer Lolis in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. And this noob trumped me? Fuuuuuuuuuck. A noob trumps a normal guy, it’s embarrassing. A noob trumps a lolicon, that’s the end of his life!

It’s like, the event of 2007. Nothing can top it. I suppose it’s time for me to say my goodbyes to Danbooru, to thank it for everything it’s done for me, and to wish it nothing but the best of luck… “hop to it!”

Really, we’ll get over this.

I don’t mean to diminish the perceived importance of Danbooru with my words. It really was a great site and had some awesome content, not to mention the fact that the man behind it was a fairly génial fellow. Running a site like that, (that is, large and popular) only leads to trouble, and he should be commended for getting as far as he did. Not to mention developing the system that made this all possible. Congrats, man.

Don’t think of this as Danbooru dying. Don’t think of this as a failure. If anything, it’s a victory. He cleared this level, we can say. He accomplished Danbooru. No one’s going to forget it—he’s left a positive imprint on our community.

I’m honestly not sad that I won’t be able to look up images on Danbooru anymore, but then again, I never was much of a visual person. As far back as I can remember, I’ve always preferred words for conveying messages. In terms of my purposes, Danbooru’s absence won’t have a big impact. But it’s a fact that it was used extensively by this EL aniblogging community, and that it was a cornerstone of posts that weren’t anime reviews. For editorials, for off-topic, for shits and giggles, Danbooru’s images were constantly in use.

I believe that its place can, and eventually will, be taken.

But what it’s done for us, and what it was and is, cannot be replaced by anything. It is Danbooru, the first site of its kind of attain that amazingly high level of quality.

Be well.

P.S.—note how JASON didn’t post about Danbooru. DOES HE EVEN KNOW IT EXISTS?!! Seriously, the guy’s the least anime blogger (adj) of any anime blogger (n) I know. Fucking bastard. AND PEOPLE LOOK UP TO HIM!!

Today I watched my two thousandth episode of anime, Simoun 26. The new season of Fall is commencing, the Strawberry Panic anime is finally dead and gone, Mai Otome Zwei has a website online, I got an A on my first AP US History essay, and things are generally looking up. I’d like to take a moment (or two hundred) to reflect upon what’s happened in the last year. I’ll mainly be focusing on the last three seasons, but (unless I’m grossly mistaken) Blood+ started in Fall 2005, and is thusly four seasons old.

I’m going to be looking at several shows in different ways with this post. I’ll be inspecting the good, the bad, the fun, the trash, and what implications there were for the future. I’ll finish the post off with some talk of the future (“my” Fall 2006). This post will be heavy in words and devoid of pictures. Oh, and I diss Jason a lot!!

Let’s start off with the end(ings of shows).

Conclusion of the Anime prior to Fall 2006

It seems to me like a lot is… ending. At the beginning of the summer season, I was a bit daunted by the number of shows I was to be watching. This is mainly because so many of the spring shows were still running, just about half over. Within days, I expect to see the final episodes of .hack//Roots, xxxHOLiC, and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni subbed on Tokyo Toshokan. The end of Summer 2006 marked the end of several shows that commenced before summer, and I’m going to start with the oldest of those.

Blood+

I took away from the first episode that the show would have beautiful animation, lesbian vampires, and be an excellent experience. It was clear by episode two that this was not going to be the case. At least not the entire case. For several episodes the show dragged, and was quite boring. By episode fourteen or so, it finally picked up. Interest renewed, I began following the show more closely. Since, it’s proved a pleasurable ride.

There’s almost nothing bad that I can say about Blood+. Almost. The last OP was absolute trash garbage and the person who wailed it should be shot repeatedly. The people who paid the person who wailed it to wail it should be shot repeatedly for polluting the show with the wailing of it. The people in charge of the TV channel(s) broadcasting Blood+ should be shot repeatedly for allowing the wailing of it to reach human ears.

But the show had what it needed to become memorable. A decent soundtrack, beautiful visuals, a propelling plot, and very, very strong characters make the show what it is. The ending is excellent, though sort of wtf in that Kai is suddenly the father of his adopted sister’s sister’s children who are also the children of his adopted brother. Who got raped by his adopted sister’s sister. But yeah, wtfness aside, it’s excellent how the characters who survive come to exist in a world that they can be a part of. Saya’s falling back to sleep was extremely well done, as well.

Strong point(s): characters
Weak point(s): slow start

Simoun

This was the biggest shock for me. When I was looking out for the spring season, I was like, “omg yuri yuri yuri Strawberry Panic’s going to be so good!!!” and at the same time, “meh, yuri, Simoun looks unhot”. Oh how wrong I was. I may be an expert in judging anime, but definitely not by their covers. Simoun played a Zegapain-type role for me, being hard to get into at first yet one of those shows after every episode of which I pause what I’m doing, take a moment and say to myself, “Damn, this show is good!”

What really did it for me is the episode where we first “learn” about Kaimu and Alti’s past “interactions”. The show wasn’t bad until that point, don’t get me wrong. But it was so strong, their interactions and the unforseen depth to their characters. Simoun really gets it right. By “it” I mean something that very few shows do correctly- emotion. I’m sorry, but the princess in Zero no Tsukaima crying about the Prince of Wales dying was not powerful. It held nothing. This is the difference between works of art and crap.

The end was strong, right up through the end. The dying of the music after the pan across the wall was exquisite. Almost made me cry. People may complain about excessive fanservice (which is nonexistent- the “plentiful unabashed yuri” complaint is complete bullshit and anyone making it is for sure a person who thinks too much about sexuality) or CG (wtf? stolen from Last Exile? Give me a break) but when it comes down to it, this show puts out. And it puts out high quality.

Strong point(s): characters, plot, “power”, OP and ED top-notch
Weak point(s): idiot watchers who bitch too much

Strawberry Panic

Been there, done that. The show is shit, and no matter the yuri fanaticism you’ve got to be a blooming idiot to enjoy this show.

Strong point(s): none
Weak point(s): being shit

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

The key point to this show was how stupid Keiichi was. Consistently throughout the show, he’s made just about the worst decision possible at any given point. RIP, Jackass.

Strong point(s): Shion slaughtering shit, OP song excellent and sequence wonderfully mood-setting
Weak point(s): idiot fanbase, Jason, WinD, parasites, stupidity, bad humor, shitty art, crappy non-plot, Satoko’s boobies

Ouran High School Host Club

Though Kannazuki no Miko lies at the top of my list of favorite anime, and though Interlude supercedes that, it’s a simple fact that there are four shows that break out of the bounds of “quality evaluation”. These are the four funniest shows ever made: Ichigo Mashimaro, Azumanga Daioh, Excel Saga, and Ouran. The last two share something in common: high-class parody. I’ll never forget you, Ouran. You’ll always crack me up.

Strong point(s): parody
Weak point(s): if taken seriously, this show might well be the worst show ever

Well, that’s enough of the wrap-up for now. There’s nothing else really note-worthy to mention.

The Good
Exceptionally good shows from the last year.

Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora

I feel like I don’t mention this enough (at all?)… it’s a stunningly beautiful short series, with an exquisitely lovely ED. It’s got “power”, it’s got characters, it’s got character, and it’s a very… hrm, cute? tale.

Strong point(s): best-done tsundere ever, “power”, characters
Weak point(s): laughable if looked at lightly.

Ergo Proxy

I don’t know how far it’s gone or where it’s going, but the 21 episodes I’ve seen sum up to be some of the most interesting anime I’ve ever watched. It has real style.

Strong point(s): characters, classiness, execution, setting
Weak point(s): hard to follow, seemingly non-linear

The Third

Like with Ergo Proxy, I don’t know where this is going. I don’t know how many episodes it’s expected to be. I don’t know if it’s done airing or whatnot. I do know that it has an awesome setting, swords, a kickass main character, great execution, powerful side characters, an endearing story, and the best vehicle CG I’ve yet to see in anime.

Strong point(s): execution, setting, characters, fight, great OP
Weak point(s): Milly holding a gun and smiling was pretty laughable.

xxxHOLiC

This series received a lot of hate for something so good. This confused me to the point of writing a post inquiring as to why it was so hated upon. With each progressing episode, I become more and more confused. It’s just good.

Strong point(s): set-up, black Mokona, Doumeki+Watanuki’s comedy act
Weak point(s): animation-style, “doesn’t live up to manga”

Zegapain

I never expected I’d like something by Sunrise so much. I mean, I drool over Mai-HiME, but that show’s certainly not good This series, mecha to boot, is a huge surprise. Sunrise’s second awesome show (after Infinite Ryvius). I want more to be released in XVID by Megami. It’s another one of those “Holy shit, this show is good!” animes.

Strong point(s): existentialism
Weak point(s): mecha, hard to get into

The Bad
Exceptionally crappy shows from the last year.

Joshikousei

High school girls are stupid.

Strong point(s): none
Weak point(s): High school girls are stupid.

Soul Link

Lolihaet.

Strong point(s): none
Weak point(s): animation, the loli, art, the loli, voices, the loli, songs, the loli, plot, the loli, and my fucking god that god damn loli who sucks so many dragonfly dicks she’s going to sprout a mutant insect-child out her collarbone.

Strawberry Panic

…

Strong point(s): none
Weak point(s): …

Shinigami no Ballad

I might not have been so dismayed with this show if its predecessor hadn’t been so god damn good. Sorry, SnB, but Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora owns you in the ass every morning before you even wake up.

Strong point(s): the first episode
Weak point(s): every other episode

Fate/Stay-night

I’m still alive.

Strong point(s): Ilya
Weak point(s): see the above link?

Chokotto Sister

Not worth my time.

Strong point(s): hawt Santa chick, Neko Nyan Dansu
Weak point(s): the imouto was actually pretty fugly

The Milestones
What the anime in the last year means in regards to the future.

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu

A fun memory. A beautiful future.

I had a lot of fun bashing on this show, and most of what I said was true. Haruhi is naught but a psycho bitch. I hate her. She can go die. The show isn’t deep. It’s a shitload of fanservice. It’s not interesting. It can go die.

But… and I say but only because I feel that the show WAS majorly shitty in general… it had its good points. For one, it had Kyon, a construct I had never seen before. Having read over the novels briefly, I can see that it captured the essence of his narration beautifully. It did a good job at that. He was an excellent character. Quite possibly one of my favorite so far in 2000 episodes of anime. Too bad jerkoffs like Jason decided it was their job to quote him in poorly romanized Japanese.

The other thing SHnY had going for it was its incredible animation. AIR was beautiful. FMP TSR was beautiful. SHnY was revolutionary. Oh, there’s been prettier. Giniro no Kami no Agito is prettier. For sure. But when we talk about television anime, we’re talking a lot of ugly shit and then some. And then there’s Last Exile. And there’s Kyoto Animation. Now, Last Exile IS quite possible aesthetically nicer than SHnY, AIR, and co. It’s damn beautiful. But SHnY does something that has NEVER BEFORE BEEN DONE. In episode 12, it opens the door to something else entirely. Last Exile didn’t do that. This is why this show is a milestone to me- I can only guess at how beautiful KyoAni’s work will be in the future. I can only guess that Kanon 2006 will be fucking amazing.

Am I wrong?

I may be an asshole, caring too much about my own opinions and self-importance, but no. I’m not wrong, fuckers.

Strong point(s): If you accept this show, it’s amazing. If you’re a bitch, it’s amazing. If you’re intelligent, you’ll appreciate Kyon and the animation.
Weak point(s): The show is only truly amazing either if you accept it (stupidity) or are a bitch (stupidity). You know what Jason has a lot of? Stupidity.

The Future of this blog, lolikit, anime, the world, etc. etc.

And that’s it for milestones! The future? Kanon 2006. KGNE 2. Good anime. And less watching of shit. I’m cutting back steadily, and with the conclusion of many shows will soon be down to one or two. Naruto will soon be off filler, and I’ll be able to make the judgement call of whether to go back to it or to drop it for good. Note that if Kyoto Animation did Naruto and Tsukihime-mode Nasu wrote the script, it would be the best show ever.

So, this coming season, I’m going to be blogging Kanon 2006. In French, as promised by the topic in #Animenano. If Hung finds fault with this, I’ll post translations to Anime Na No and post the French as OT. It’ll be good practice and should be fun.

I don’t have high hopes for Kanon 2006. I do know it’ll be aesthetically awing.

… and that’s all, I guess. Here’s to never breaking 2500 episodes. I watched 2000 in 1.5 years. Do the math. The average is ridiculous.

And by shitty, I mean “WHERE BE THA KILLER LOLIS?!!!”

As I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, episodes one, five, and nine are utter crap. The first episodes of each the first three arcs are nigh unwatchable, clearly earning this show the title of “stupid”. Some faithfuls say that they’re present to introduce light-heartedness. Comedy. A little bad haremesque stuff. For contrast and shock.

… it’s not light-hearted. It’s not comedy. It’s not just a little bad. It’s mind-numbingly moronic. And this episode- the first episode of a new arc- is no different. So we have a water fight instead of a card game or an introduction to the classmates. But it’s the same damn thing, with Satoko yelling “WTF!!!” and Keiichi acting like the complete jackass that he is.

Now, let’s examine Rena, as she seems to be the focus of this arc, and people are mentioning her in the context that she might possibly turn out to be a wtfkillerloli.

First off, it’s obvious that Rena, much like the rest of the cast, and the main character of Fruits Basket, has serious issues. I consider myself superior to Rena for the simple reason that her issues do not stem from supernatural stalker gods. No, she’s traumatized by the divorce of her parents. And fuck the weak-willed, my parents’ divorce didn’t do jackshit to me other than perhaps make me a better person as I began to rely more heavily on my older brothers and less on senile oldfolk.

Another problem Rena has is that she’s too smart for her own good. It leads to Keiichi getting killed in Watanagashi-hen and it’ll lead to some else dying this arc as well- I’m not sure if this “quality” of Rena’s counts as her being a killer loli. Say that I’m a loli. And there’s a death penalty for pedophiles. I appeal to some pedophile and he gets caught lusting after me. He is killed. AM I A KILLER LOLI?!!

Next, we need to consider that Rena is REALLY lonely. She moved around a lot throughout her life. I’ve heard my mom’s stories about that kind of experience. Now, Rena has gone through a lot- a bad divorce, custody rulings (which are a bitch) and a variety of other things we can only guess at (but don’t involve the supernatural) and comes out of it all a bit… off. In the head. And maybe in the vagina, if her dad’s that kind of person. Or if her mom is that kind of person? I dunno.

From the episode itself, we see Rena yell a little, that being the greatest display of her “oyashiro-kei”. The last few times we saw her yell like that, we saw it from Keiichi’s point of view. It was normally followed with Keiichi freaking out or some such. As determined before, Keiichi is insane and thanks to power of suggestion and an over-active imagination, makes believe that Rena is acting psycho. She just yells a little.

And you know what? I’ve yelled a bit in my life time. Haven’t we all?

I think it’s time to flip WinD another one.

Their red effects on “USO DA!!!” were great for conveying the sensations Rena’s yell must have carried into Keiichi’s psyche. In the context of Rena getting a tad worked up in a coffee shop, they do not work AT ALL. Either WinD is just stupid, or they have completely misinterpreted the show (they probably read Jason’s blog- a downward spiral of misconceptions) and think that Rena’s yelling indicates OYASHIRO MODE. In which case they’re just stupid.

The most “mode”ish thing this episode was Rena going into her super-detective mode. Which is perfectly cool and reasonable. Rena has shown us before that she’s capable of making intelligent decisions (she maybe be the only one in the show with this capability) and I’m not scared at all of serious Rena.

Not much happens this episode. There’s not a whole lot to interpret. Rena’s the way she is, a bit disturbed and mostly normal, easily excitable but not about to whip out machetes or kalashnikovs from hammerspace or shit like that. Indeed, those who were saying shit like “quick to form judgements” with implications that something will change soon after 21… mmmmmmm no. Episode 22 gives no hint at Rena being a killer loli.

Now, the preview is a whole another matter. Kite correctly assessed that there is a bloody axe in the episode preview. What this means, no one knows, but keep in mind that we have absolutely no reason to believe that Rena kills anyone with it at this point.

I can’t believe I watched this episode at 2x.

Strawberry Panic is seriously more entertaining at this point.

I didn’t say anything for a long time because I was behind on the show for about two months, but after completing episode 21 I feel perfectly safe in saying that there are no killer lolis. Satoshi (who killed his aunt) is not a loli, Shion (who killed just about everyone) is not a loli, Keiichi (who killed Rena and Mion) is not a loli, Takano (who killed Tomitake) is not a loli, and Irie (who killed himself) is not a loli. The killers (and suiciders) are not lolis and the lolis are not killers (though one of them is a suicider). Fuck you WinD for putting the term “killer loli” in the eyecatch of one or more of your fansubs, fuck you Jason for leading countless mindless fanboys into a “killer loli” phase, and fuck you mindless fanboys for listening to fucking Jason and paying attention to whatever losers are behind WinD’s releases. I was right at episode twelve, I was right at episode thirteen, and I’m still. Fucking. Right.

Goes to show what correct conclusions one can come to if one bothers to think.

EDIT: oh, and fuck you people who thought that there was supernatural shit in this show.
