we're finally notdotq anymore

So, fellow anime bloggers, I’m going to be asking for some help/advice
over the next few days as I try to get this site running smoothly again.

Today’s problem is that I’m not watching any bloggable shows. At least, I’m not watching anything that’s suitable for blogging on this site. ARIA is wonderful and all but praising it really doesn’t fit my trollikitsune image. Other shows I’m watching are… well, I just finished Spice and Wolf (semi-bloggable). I’ve got one episode left of True Tears, making it not really feasible blogging material. And I’m watching Kimi Kiss (only because it has an episode entitled "Rainy Blue"), which, though it does sort of lend itself to ridicule, regrettably makes me way too emo to post effective lulz.

SO.

I need recommendations, especially since there’s a new season starting up (right? spring anime? or was that last month? I’m so out of the loop). What terrible shows are airing? What good shows that I need to make fun of? Is Kyoto Animation doing anything? Are we on Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Season 4 yet? And what about Zero no Tsukaima?

Refresh me, update me, and let me know what to watch for the sake of destruction.

OR—should I forget about watching anime and finally become the anime blog blog that I’ve always wanted to be? Jason Miao isn’t the only good target.

(This would have been a far more interesting panel topic than “blogging and anime popularity.” Also, my new poll is hilarious.)

This will be an examination of various “styles,” “genres,” or “disciplines,” if you will, in anime blogging.

The Jason Miao School of Fanboyism
Defining characteristics: abundance of /a/ memes in posts. Invents own quazi-memes for propagation amongst innocent readers. Misinterprets anime and squees over said misinterpretation. Tends to make posts about english language anime blogging community, while refusing to partake in said community. Fanboys over shit.

The Jeff Lawson School of Fanboyism
Defining characteristics: Fanboys over shit, but is extremely courteous to others in the process. Members of this school are the last proponents of civility on the internet. Also enjoys good discourse.

The Stripey School of Siscon
Defining characteristics: enjoys pretty things. And little sister characters. Blogging persona defined by fetish.

The Lovely Kitsune School of Youth Appreciation
Defining characteristics: gag posts, preaches Ichigo Mashimaro and Maria-sama ga Miteru, bashes shit anime. (the most entertaining school of anime blogging)

The Impz School of Delegation
Defining characteristics: ambitious. Tries to get lots of people to post on site in order to increase posts, readership, popularity, etc. Tries to get one or more post out per day. Worries about stats, page hits, etc. Generally too concerned with appearances to kick potential ass.

The Os School of Not Blogging
Defining characteristics: doesn’t post while bitching about other people not posting. Fix it yourself, lamer.

Defining characteristics: doesn’t post. Or rather, posts, but nothing of meaning or value.

The JP Meyer School of Intelligence
Defining characteristics: valuable posts. Concerned with community, stats, AND quality.
Assorted subscribers: JP Meyer, Michael, Owen S (when he’s not trying to be a gangster)

There might be more. And I didn’t place all the bloggers because that’s not really the point. Basically, the Japanese anime bloggers are better than us, Japan is superior, GRAPHS, etc. etc.

I once asked fifteen questions of my readers, back when I was in Copenhagen around the birth of ANO. That was a good time- I was watching insane amounts of bad anime, not sleeping, blogging Strawberry Panic, and Dr. Japes was still around the IRC channel. Tomorrow, I take my US History AP test, and, while I promised myself (and my friends, and my family) that I would get a 5, I’m finally starting to get a little nervous…

I feel the need to know more about the world before I die, so I hope that you can all answer these questions intelligently and completely. Owen, Michael, I’m primarily looking at you.

1. was I wrong to establish myself as a troll in my post-retirement blogging stage?

2. who would win in a fight, Drm’s penis or my ass? Consider advantages either of these may have, such as opposable thumbs or heatvision.

3. am I male or female? No “internets” answers please.

4. how old am I? Answer in anime-related terms.

5. does Os love the ogre more than me?

6. what’s the first association you have when you think of me, or this blog, etc.?

7. is Owen the approved successor to Dr. Japes’ position as “most intelligent and incisive anime blog” ?

8. why is it that, while both are the epitome of fanboyism, Jeff > Jason?

9. have you ever used the phrase “hard yuri” or have you ever cannibalized my “yfr” acronym to mean “yaoi flute rape”? And, if yes, why don’t you wake up every morning wondering what a fucking moron you are? And, if you do, why haven’t you killed yourself yet?

10. even though roreee is “my” “moe sound,” I still say “gao” all the time (out loud, to other people). WHy is this?

11. Triple V or Triple A? Lack of bad pseudo-yuri anime or nation-wide depression?

12. Does anyone think I haven’t watched Last Exile, H&C, etc.?

13. From which end do you start eating … loliyuri ice cream…? >_>

14. Is there going to be a Black Lagoon s3? Will it be a better or worse sequel to BL s2 than Da Capo Second Season was to DC? Also, won’t DC II anime just blow?

15. Wrath of God or Damnation?

It’s like, the event of 2007. Nothing can top it. I suppose it’s time for me to say my goodbyes to Danbooru, to thank it for everything it’s done for me, and to wish it nothing but the best of luck… “hop to it!”

Really, we’ll get over this.

I don’t mean to diminish the perceived importance of Danbooru with my words. It really was a great site and had some awesome content, not to mention the fact that the man behind it was a fairly génial fellow. Running a site like that, (that is, large and popular) only leads to trouble, and he should be commended for getting as far as he did. Not to mention developing the system that made this all possible. Congrats, man.

Don’t think of this as Danbooru dying. Don’t think of this as a failure. If anything, it’s a victory. He cleared this level, we can say. He accomplished Danbooru. No one’s going to forget it—he’s left a positive imprint on our community.

I’m honestly not sad that I won’t be able to look up images on Danbooru anymore, but then again, I never was much of a visual person. As far back as I can remember, I’ve always preferred words for conveying messages. In terms of my purposes, Danbooru’s absence won’t have a big impact. But it’s a fact that it was used extensively by this EL aniblogging community, and that it was a cornerstone of posts that weren’t anime reviews. For editorials, for off-topic, for shits and giggles, Danbooru’s images were constantly in use.

I believe that its place can, and eventually will, be taken.

But what it’s done for us, and what it was and is, cannot be replaced by anything. It is Danbooru, the first site of its kind of attain that amazingly high level of quality.

P.S.—note how JASON didn’t post about Danbooru. DOES HE EVEN KNOW IT EXISTS?!! Seriously, the guy’s the least anime blogger (adj) of any anime blogger (n) I know. Fucking bastard. AND PEOPLE LOOK UP TO HIM!!

So, Jason has apparently IP banned me from AoMM and Blogsuki. I can’t pull feeds from either with my RSS program.

Is this my ultimate victory? Ultimate failure? Or does it just not matter?

And should I bother to add him to the list of bloggers on the Kanon 2006 Tracker?

For the record, I thought it rather cool that the last frame in the show was the title, with that red and white infinity sign… no longer looping.

Overall, the show was pretty bad. But it still fits into that 5% of watchable anime. Barely. Keiichi is pretty stupid. The only character I’ve ever seen top him is Honda Tohru of Fruits Basket fame. Onigiri…~
