12 Days Day 3: Do you remember love?

Lolikitean Christmas continues. The anime of the day is Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai, AKA The Mouthful.

Description

Six childhood friends grew apart in high school. One of them is Jintan, now a shut-in. He gets a request to fulfill a wish for Menma, the only one of their friends to have stayed the same over the years. In order to grant her wish, he will have to find and reunite their old friends.

There’s a blog about the kind of bullshit Jinta spends 11 episodes doing. That blog is not my blog^[1]. Because this is a blog dedicated to realism, let’s face the facts: Jintan is a(n understandably) emo sack of shit, and the ghost haunting him is worse. She’s an incessant faucet of whining, a whinge-hydrant of epic proportions. “Jin-tan” this, “Jin-tan” that. She easily cinches the award most annoying voice-work of 2011, but eh—I guess that’s what makes her so memorable.

Can’t blame Jinta for remembering love.

Even if I mostly remember wanting to punch Menma in the face.

I forgot this was about Menma. I remember liking this when I watched it, but sadly put off by the rather manipulative ending.

What I really remember? Easy. Anaru and Manma. Sometimes it’s what the fanbase comes up with out of a show that makes it memorable.

I don’t think Ano Hana is going to be in my 12 days, but I never understood how Jinta was able to drop out of school like that. Must be Japan, high school isn’t compulsory..? Hmm. Also the opening theme song was nice.
