your thoughts have summoned this post from hell so, as i pray... Home > Archives > 2007 > April > 24 Perhaps the machine has stopped gyratingOn the other hand, the machine of moe and fanboyism seems to be autonomic and expanding. Parallels could be made between the spread of low-intelligence anime fanideas and the classic “octopus” of the American railroad. I won’t bother extrapolating; there isn’t much point in me arguing further on the topic. Fanime will likely be my last physical foray into the world of otakudom, and with its closure, so will come my parting with whatever identifies me as an otaku. To be honest, I’m just tired of seeing the word “moe” and hearing people talk about how crap like certain Studio Deen anime is good. Does this mean I’m going into “my tastes are impeccable” mode, and finally becoming so elitist that I’m unable to remain in a community I deem below myself? Meh. Not really. At the festival on Sunday I realized that the average anime fan disgusts me. Anime blogging—submitting myself to this community of anime fans—opens me up to a large number of people with stupid ideas and pissant attitudes towards a whole host of things. It dissatisfies me that the majority of people in this community don’t think for themselves and understand the problems with “moe” and it dissatisfies me even more that the majority of people to whom I try to explain said problems are too dull to comprehend them. Maybe I’m just adverse to large communities in general. Whatever. My passion for anime has been dead for a while now, and now the anime blogging community is turning me off. Fanime will mark the finish line for the notdotq vehicle. Gaaaooo, mother-fucker. |
it is moist & delicious meta and it's not even a lie! 15 ResponsesLeave a Comment |

Did you coin that yourself? “Fanime”. If that’s a con of some sort then sue me, I didn’t know.

As to that, well, amen brother. My suggestion would be to whittle down the blogs you read or just stop reading the stuff that annoys you for a moment.

Oh, and screw your jaded view on things, you’re a real James Dean, you are. Go read KareKano or something, the entire 12 volumes were posted on TT today. 26% done as of now.

If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. People are entitled to have their own opinion as long as they’re not going around eating babies or something dumb like that. Do whatever floats your boat.

Whoa, nice 180 there.
So let me get this right, people in this community don’t think for themselves in determining what they choose to enjoy and do. ok…
This coming from the person that is somehow angered by Lucky Star, a dumb fluff inoffensive show. Have any cognitive dissonance recently? “How could anybody possibly like this crap?!?!?” You seem like just another jaded anime fan that’s unhappy that more people don’t share your opinions on things. Find some other hobby and don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out.

I think it’s just a sense of “I’ve grown out of it”. I’m kinda like that too…seeing people oogle over sucky star pisses me off at this point. Unlike last year instead of blogging 17 shows I’m only blogging like 8. People at anime cons piss me off too haha I was thinking of going to Otakon this year but I might scrap it…the only thing making me wanna go is to sell my artwork (so I’m going for moneys sake hahaha)

Oooo, oooo! Can I say “fuck anime, I want to live!”?
Otherwise, nope, I have absolutely nothing remotely interesting to say.

It all depends on what you’re writing for. If you want your voice to be heard, if you want to “show” people “the right way”, if you want to find out what other people think about anime, if you want people to see things the way you do, e.g. The options are endless, and if your reason doesn’t work for you anymore, find something else to do. Though your blog is very interesting, IMO. :P
I personally don’t think that moe itself it much of a problem, and that’s probably because I don’t pay attention to it, which is why I don’t see Lucky Star as a moe anime for example (/me rolls eyes at “Sucky Star”). It’s all in how you look at it, I guess.

The idea there is that I’m not jaded because of disagreeing perspectives, but that I’m sick of people being morons. I could have used more loaded language (as I normally do) but I was afraid someone like DigiKerot would turn it into “fuck anime, I want to live”‚Äîwhich he did anyway, apparently.
Owen- Fanime is a con.
Hinano- good to see someone else in the boat.
BigN- thanks for the interest. I like my blog too, but this is about more than just my blog, as I’m sure you understand. If there were no community, if this blog didn’t link me to some other group of people, it might be different.
Maybe I’m becoming a misanthropist :D

…you mean you weren’t one already? =D
As for anime cons, I know the pain all to well. The largest one for us Canadians is coming up. I’m looking forward to it because it’s where I hoard together enough manga to last me the year. But some of the people there just make you lose all your faith in humanity.

Misanthrope. Get a life, motherfucker.
I’m kidding.
Feel free to vent whatever floats your boat on your blog. As for me, I’m still into anime and still into Kyoko from MI. :V
3 anime you should watch: DtB, Claymore, Bokurano … and HONEY AND CLOVER. Wait, that’s 4. Just do it.

Most anime today is made so you don’t have to think in my opinion. Actually I think its a problem that’s plaguing all of society in this age. People would rather not have to think for themselves and prefer to have others do the thinking for them, which is why I think anime is so successful. Independent thought as at an all time low, so when the newest anime comes out the fans will eat up that which they have been told they should like by their peers. Since Moe activates a base instinct and the thought process of many is in the off position, they are drawn to the loli girls, bright colours and cutesy thing that the characters do. Because of this studios really need not develop their characters extensively anymore, they just need to make them 12 year old squeakers with moe traits.
For example I’ll do it right here: Her name is Ayaki Sumono, she is 12 years old and deeply in love with her onii-chan. She wears a purple headband her in her hair that her older brother gave her and refuses to let it be taken off unless its by her onii-chan, otherwise she has a temper tantrum. She enjoys eating Ice-Cream, is a member of her schools swimming club, and she puts her Swimming cap on over her head band. She speaks with a -Mizu attached to the end of her sentences and wants to win the national swimming competition to make her Onii-Chan proud of her. That’s it done, there is your “character”, do the character design, package her and you’ve got a good shot at one of the most popular characters of the year.

It’s funny, this is the age of collaboration and the internet and all that, and yet statements like yours are accurate. Says something dreadful about the nature of groups, of cooperation, and of the average human being.
