Strawberry Panic 2!, or "Why we can’t have original things"

Hah, bet I got your attention with that title. Well, it’s not quite SP 2.

Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru is about a guy who isn’t much of a manly man. In fact, he’s so little of a manly man that without any non-temporary changes, his best friend turns him into a girl. Yes, folks. His voice is naturally high and feminine, and his eyes naturally the size of 3/4 of his head, and… well, you get the idea. It’s pretty ridic.

But what’s really interesting is the fact that it was 100% unoriginal. I mean at least Strawberry Panic had the Etoile thing.

Let’s examine the list of things that Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru takes from other shows.

It has the “Gokigenyou” of Maria-sama ga Miteru and Kannazuki no Miko.
It has the character designs of Da Capo (seriously, the characters. look. the. same.)
It has the all-girls-school dormitory of Strawberry Panic.
It has the nun-headmistress of Maria-sama ga Miteru and Strawberry Panic.
It has the girly-boy-turned-girl of Kasimasi.
It has the stupidity of Strawberry Panic.
It has the “grandfather’s will” of Hanaukyo Maid Tai.
It has the childhood friend of… oh fuck it, I’m not listing all of them.
It has the bad yuri jokes of Mai-HiME.
It has the Engrish-ridden OP of Kasimasi.
It has the chibi-ridden ED of Azumanga Daioh.
It has the “onee-sama” of Maria-sama ga Miteru and Strawberry Panic.

Between all of these, there’s simply nothing original in the first episode. I bet the seiyuu are all vets from previous crappy yuri anime, too.

it is moist & delicious meta

and it's not even a lie!
