Strawberry Panic – Episode 4

TENSHI-SAMA?!

The episode begins with yet another Ana-chan look-alike conducting inner dialogue on believing in angels. She then observes our Rosa Foetida en Bouton look-alike riding a horse, and in that instant, the existance of angels is confirmed for her: she’s seen her angel, and it’s… well, see the above picture.

Ok, that was lame. Truth be told, this whole episode was kind of lame for blogging. You know how I told you to look forward to this post for humor? You’re not getting it. There were several flaws with this episode that make it practically unbloggable. (And unbelievable.) I’ll now go over them.

First off, Etoile doesn’t try to rape any little girls this episode. In that alone, this episode loses MOST of its innate humor and just… doesn’t feel like Strawberry Panic. Next, we get a grand total of 2 minutes of screentime for Nagisa and Tamao. What the hell? I didn’t pay for St. Spica students, those white uniforms are painfully bright. Gimme back my black. Oh, and let’s not forget the fact that the episode was very, very, very very very very very very (why aren’t I using copy+paste?) very very very very very shoujo, the the point where it’s just… way more serious than the past few episodes?

In all honesty, there was very little in the episode to make fun of. Even as much as I love loliyuri and am an open pervert, I’d feel bad saying “hahahahaha shoujo ai” for this episode. I mean, yeah, there was shoujo ai… but it didn’t have the same feel as ANYTHING ELSE I’ve EVER watched in anime. In other words, it wasn’t laughable. It was just sort of… there. And yeah, they’re in love with eachother. And… and what?

There was one mockable lily scene, when the Ana-chan look-alike’s room-mate pinned her down to her bed and got on top of her. But that was just a lame attempt at fanservice, methinks. Like the shower scene.

Anyway, I apologize for failing like this. This episode should get special notice for the reason that it’s unlike any shoujo ai I’ve ever seen before. If I ever get around to that analysis of yuri in anime post I’ve been planing for a long time now, this episode will surely come up again. For the record, the girl’s angel is not the horse but its rider; the first paragraph of this post is just an all-bad joke.

I hope next episode goes back to Etoile cornering Nagisa again. I watch this show for laughable yuri, not touching stories.

Look forward to FSN ep 17 review, that’ll SURELY be funny. I mean, how is it not fun to rip that show apart?

it is moist & delicious meta
