Getting Riled Up

THIS IS FUCKED, YES?!

I gave up on anime blogging three months ago in favor of more productive endeavors, but here I find myself, like a moth flying back to a lantern, entering the word “loli” into the category list of a WordPress.com account. And all because of one scene in one show. One little scene in Mai Otome.

Rarely has anime been able to get me this pissed off. Naruto and Bleach have done it, but that’s their vocation. That’s their role in the anime world. Mai Otome’s role was supposed to be a lot of light hearted fanservice/comedy and a lot of heavy plotline. It was supposed to be slightly inferior to Mai Hime and it was supposed to be good.

Instead, we get Shizuru being raped by a stupid little girl who would lose to Miu in a battle of wits, 1.5 episodes of Mai (and that’s all we get,) and, icing on the cake, a father and daughter having sex. I’m normally not anti-incest as such, I support anything that has proper backing. Yes, even twincest shota. But this… ok, first, what the fuck?! Sex? This isn’t Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. I didn’t pay for this.

Second, there’s no real romantic build up to it. The scene goes sort of like this…

Serge: I’ll do anything to protect you.
Nina: fuck me.
Serge: no.
Nina: you’re still in love with that dead woman aren’t you?
Serge: … *fucks her*

Ok, first off, Nina, Serge said he’d be your shield, not your spear. Secondly, Nagi didn’t authorize you to use the Harmonium to grow boobs. He’s gonna zap those fakes off you and spank you if he finds out. Thirdly, you got your dear oto-sama killed.

If there’s one thing you learn from anime, it’s that sex ends with someone dead.

Look at Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. Haruka almost dies.
Look at Saishuu Heiki Kanojo. Everyone dies.
Look at Ichigo Mashimaro. Miu is going to die.

The worst thing about this occurrence is that the first thought I had was…

“Oh shit. Poor Arika.”

I think we all know, deep down inside, that Arika’s gonna bring Serge back to life, straddle him, and just as she’s about to make the show a whole lot better Mai’ll tap her on the shoulder and say “You’re an otome.” Aside from the fanservice implicit from her presence in the show, Mai hasn’t done much for the series. Her appearance wasn’t that breathtaking, she’s only used her powers to cook ramen, and she couldn’t even give Arika any useful advice.

Now, if had been her and Natsuki instead of Serge and Nina, then things might be different. … things might be good?

Anyway. This episode pissed me off greatly, so now I’m back on the anime blogging bandwagon. Expect more anger.
